Chris Nybo is a former Illinois Senator and Representative who developed a reputation as one of the most bipartisan legislators during a period of intense division. In the Senate, he served as Spokesperson for the influential Senate Executive Committee, where his then counterpart was Senate President Don Harmon.
Chris worked closely with President Harmon to pass several important measures, such as the Alternatives to Opioids Act expanding medical cannabis in Illinois and the Firearm Dealer License Certificate Act. Chris also served as Caucus Chair, Spokesperson for the Financial Institutions Committee and a member of key industry committees focused on energy, gaming, healthcare, public utilities, transportation, and revenue.
As principal of his own government relations firm, Mr. Nybo’s knowledge of and experience with political, legislative and regulatory processes makes him adept at crafting, developing and influencing legislation and public policy. He brings his unique experience in advising clients on complex regulatory matters, articulating and advocating policy positions, and creating effective business, legislative and legal strategies to this full- service government relations focused law firm.
In conjunction with his experience and capabilities, Chris is intensely focused on client service. In recognition of his devotion to and successful outcomes for his clients, he was honored to receive the 2021 Laurence P. Mulcrone Award from the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police for his work on behalf of his client, the Illinois Security Professionals Association. For the last several years, he has been among only a few lobbyists selected for Thomson Reuters’ list of Illinois Super Lawyers. Only five percent of all lawyers in the state receive this honor annually, and this will be the ninth straight year that Chris was included.
While in the legislature, Chris received awards from the Cannabis Business Association of Illinois, the Illinois Health Care Association, the Associated Beer Distributors of Illinois, the Illinois Chamber of Commerce, the Illinois School Nurses Association, the Small Business Advocacy Council, and other organizations. Chris earned his B.A. from Dartmouth College (summa cum laude) in Government and Public Policy and his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School.
